Share Your World – On Lounging, Accessories and Running Away

Share Your World X Harry Potter series hosted by Melanie and Roger comes to an end with a set of questions inspired by The Deathly Hallows. It’s been fun completing this for several weeks.

Have you ever driven the wrong way on a one-way street? How did this come about?

Not (yet?). I prefer to take the train, bus or cab when in unfamiliar territories or abroad where this is likely to happen for me.

As a kid, did you ever decide to run away? Did you have a plan? Take a pet? Sandwiches?

There was a year when I did. I was about 8 or 9 then. I don’t know what made me do it but I planned how I’d survive after running away and came up with a design of my ‘new’ place, a 5-year and 10-year plan on how much I have to make/spend on a daily basis to buy ‘the place’, including a budget for furniture, food and toys. Then I tried to apply for a job and realized the crack in my plan lol.

You suddenly found you have a hidden talent for playing a musical instrument. What musical instrument do you hope that accompanies your talent? Any particular song?

Piano, sax or violin.

Do you accessorize with jewelry? Have you had any heirloom jewelry passed down through the generations? Is it more ‘keepsake’ or do you wear it on occasion?

Rarely. I used to when I was young but a kidnapping incident in elementary school made me stop for awhile until I got used to not putting them on. I do have some heirloom jewelry that I’ve never worn.

For the muggle questions:

What ingredients go into YOUR favorite salad?

I like almost anything in a salad as long as the ingredients don’t clash, except pasta salad. There was a time when I couldn’t get enough of roasted sesame salad dressing, I’d toss it in with mangoes, lettuce, chicken strips and a few other bits. Before that there was feta cheese and croutons.

If you care to, share something that really irritates you.

Politicians (too many to mention), scammers, people who don’t wear masks in shops and are proud or don’t care at others’ discomfort.

What are your favorite ‘lounging around the house’ items of clothing? Now that a lot of people ‘lounge around the house’ waiting for the all clear in respect to Covid being shown the door, have those lounging items changed?

I used to wear sweatpants and t-shirts or workout clothes at home, now I’m mostly in a dress or lounge pants and a tee. The lounge pants are as comfortable as pajamas but can be worn out.

GRATITUDE (as always this is optional)

Please feel free to share something about Autumn (or Spring if you’re gearing up for that) that you especially enjoy!

These are old photos that just make me smile. More spring photos featured in this post.

Share Your World Pt. 3 – On Happiness, Play and Secret Tunnels

This 3rd installation of Share Your World meets Harry Potter series brought to us by Melanie and Roger gives us questions inspired by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

The Harry Potter questions:

One of my favorite gifts that Harry Potter received came from the Weasley Twins; and was “Mrs. Mooney’s Marauder’s Map.” This magical document showed every classroom, hallway and secret corner in all of Hogwarts. It also showed you the location-by name of every person in Hogwarts. If you had such a magical map of your town, what would you use it for? If you would not use it, is there another person to whom you would gift it?

We have a version of this in our time like Google Maps and a few other apps. But the Marauder’s Map is fun and If I had it, I’d use it during trips to new places. And to check which places are already or still open for exploration. I’d gift it to my future kid if I ever have any.

When was the last time you made a snowball? Were in a snowball fight?

It doesn’t snow where I’m from so my first experience of it was in my early 20s during a business trip abroad. I was with colleagues and strangers so no snowball fight then, or yet. I made a snowball discreetly while out on lunch that snowy day.

Many cultures set great value in each child of the family having godparents. Did you have godparents? Are you a godparent yourself?

I had godparents, on paper. Or so I heard. But I haven’t met them save for the time when I was a baby. I am a godparent to a friend’s daughter and I take it seriously.

You have found a secret tunnel under your house. Where does it go?

It leads to a Room as Needed, which can have or be anything I need i.e. panic room, hideout, bat cave, snack room etc.

The muggle questions:

Is intelligence or wisdom more useful?

Both are useful and has its purpose. Intelligence has to do with aptitude, with learning and its applications, while wisdom is the ability to discern what’s good/right/sound based on knowledge, experience, understanding, insight. Both are needed to live a good life.

How important is play in living a healthy and fulfilling life?

Very important. I think it helps bring balance in our lives and keeps us ‘young’.

Is happiness just chemicals flowing through your brain or something more?

Not just chemicals, but the chemicals are a necessary part of the happiness equation. For me, it’s a mix of internal and external experiences that bring us to a state involving positive feelings, emotions.
